Zebra Rodeo
A build log for a children’s audio box that plays stories when a figure is placed on it.
What does it do?
The maker built a box with an RFID reader and tags so children could hear stories without a screen or menu. Reading a figure’s tag starts its matching audio track. The maker first tested the playback circuit with an ESP32 development board and breadboard, then documented problems encountered while adding volume controls and a battery. The account also covers moving from easily dislodged breadboard wiring to a sturdier design. It describes a device made for the maker’s 3 children and the experience of building it.

- Play an audio story according to the tag on a figure placed on the box
- Select the track to play using an RFID reader and tags
- Build an MP3 playback circuit with an ESP32 development board
- Describe the move from a breadboard prototype to a sturdier circuit
