WHAT IT DOES
What does it do?
Seal lets users put letters, media, files, and secrets in encrypted envelopes for individual recipients and set release rules. The encrypted envelopes are stored in an Apple iCloud container without a Seal server, and keys do not leave the phone. If the user does not respond for a specified period, a chosen person can initiate a claim; after warnings and a grace period, each envelope opens on its recipient's phone.
KEY FEATURES
Key features
- Store letters, photos, audio, video, files, and secrets in envelopes for individual recipients
- Distribute key pieces among several trusted people
- Set rules for releasing envelopes when the user is absent
- Release keys after a claim, repeated warnings, and a grace period when the user stops responding
- Export signed records as JSON capsules for verification with an independent script
- Let each recipient open only their own envelope on their own phone
EDITOR'S NOTE
Why did it stand out?
It designs delivery after death around recipient-specific envelopes and distributed key pieces without a central server. It also discloses the lack of an independent audit and a cancellation process to prevent an erroneous determination that the user has died.
