restoredrill
A recovery drill tool that documents the actual restorability of PostgreSQL and MySQL backups for audits

WHAT IT DOES
What does it do?
restoredrill verifies PostgreSQL and mysqldump file-based MySQL 8 backups by restoring them to disposable containers. It checks RPO freshness, custom SQL assertions, and RTO against a target using a fail-closed approach, then generates a consistent JSON report for audits. It also supports connecting to an already restored database to run a subset of checks.
KEY FEATURES
Key features
- Restore verification for PostgreSQL and mysqldump-based MySQL 8 backups
- Recovery drills in disposable containers without accessing the production environment
- RPO freshness checks and custom SQL assertions
- RTO tracking against a target
- Fail-closed handling that treats checks that cannot run as failures
- Audit-ready JSON reports containing actual restore times and execution details
EDITOR'S NOTE
Why did it stand out?
It aims to prove that a restore actually succeeds, rather than merely that a backup file exists. Checks that cannot run are treated as failures, and the result is a consistent report that auditors can use directly.
