nesformer
A project that implements an NES CPU in Qwen3.5 model weights to generate a game execution trace.
What does it do?
It runs the NES 6502 CPU, working RAM and cartridge program ROM inside a Qwen3.5 checkpoint. When a user specifies a supported NROM ROM, the model generates a CPU execution trace token by token, while a separate host program handles the display and controller input. It can display frames in the command line and saves an animated GIF named after the ROM when execution ends. It requires Python 3.11 or later.
Key features
- Runs the NES 6502 CPU, RAM and program ROM in a Qwen3.5 checkpoint.
- Runs a game from a specified .nes file using an NROM board.
- Allows button inputs and frame ranges to be specified.
- Displays frames in the terminal and saves the result as an animated GIF.
- Runs on Python 3.11 or later.
