An interactive map that shifts from equal-area at the global view to Mercator as you zoom in

WHAT IT DOES
What does it do?
This map uses an equal-area projection at a global scale and transitions smoothly to a Mercator projection as you zoom in. It uses a compromise projection during the transition, with both forward and inverse mappings defined by simple closed-form equations. Panning the map and using the comparison view also lets you examine differences in distortion across regions.
KEY FEATURES
Key features
- Display an equal-area map at a global scale
- Transition continuously to a Mercator projection when zooming in
- Generate compromise projections according to zoom level
- Provide closed-form equations for forward and inverse mappings
- Compare other projections and views of different regions
