WHAT IT DOES
What does it do?
WebGCM runs a global climate model covering the atmosphere, ocean, sea ice, snow, and soil in the browser. Where WebGPU is supported, it processes computation kernels on the graphics card; otherwise, it switches to a slower CPU engine. Saved model states can be used to create contour and wind-speed maps for different pressure levels and download them as SVG or PNG.
KEY FEATURES
Key features
- Global climate simulation with approximately 41,000 cells
- Earth visualizations for wind, temperature, pressure, rain, clouds, ice, and ocean currents
- Particle-based tracking of wind flow
- Saved snapshots of model states
- Weather map generation from saved states and SVG or PNG downloads
- Automatic switch to a CPU engine when WebGPU is unsupported
